Cadet Unit Annual Inspection

After much preparation and anxious days, Camperdown High School Cadet Unit finally had its Annual Inspection on Wednesday, February 15, 2008, at 1500 hrs on the school grounds.

This is a key activity on the calendar of activities for all seven (7) Battalions within the Jamaica Combined Cadet Force (J.C.C.F.). Each Battalion conducts its own inspection exercise to select the best Unit within the Battalion to represent it at the Force level, competing for the national trophy, the Ruel Vaz Trophy.

Camperdown is one of eleven Units in the Second Battalion and a member of Bravo Company. The Unit entered this year’s Annual review in fourth (4th) position, a significant improvement over the previous calendar year 2005/06 from ninth (9th) position. The programme composes the following:

1.      Parade March Pass in slow and quick time

2.      Three (3) instructional presentations

3.      Quartermaster review – Unit Administration

4.      Display presentation

5.      Presentation Ceremony

The Display was an illustration of an army camp being over run by enemy forces. Fire-crackers and flaming oil drums served as special effects and backdrop. With only 32 Cadets on hand, a single platoon was fielded for the parade. Acting Sergeant Major (SM), LCpl Ricardo ROBERTS, now promoted to Corporal effective 1/2/2008, lead the parade on behalf of Officer Commanding Unit, 2Lt. Wendy CHAMBERS.

The final activity was the Presentation Ceremony, chaired by 2Lt. CHAMBERS. Final greetings and remarks were carried by Maj. Graham whose encouraging comments included preliminary accolades on the Unit “A notch improvement over last year’s Parade”. Appreciation was offered for the support received by the Unit, to the Principal, School, Miss Althea Martin (School’s Liaison Officer), family, friends and persons present. Presentations were made to Cdt. Nigel McGREGOR (most improved Cadet) and Cdt. Orlando JOHNSON (best turnout), who has been promoted to LCpl effective 1/2/2008.

As Inspection continues in the other Units of the Battalion (up to March 16, 2008) we anxiously await the publication of the final results.

Prepared by: PO Linval White                                          Approved by: 2Lt. Wendy CHAMBERS.
